Your storefront is designed from scratch and built as its own fast website. Shopify stays behind it for products, orders, payments and checkout, so the store can look like nothing else out there while your team keeps the admin they already know.

A good fit for

  • Brands whose store has outgrown what a Shopify theme can do
  • New ecommerce brands that want the site to look like the brand, not a template
  • Stores losing sales to a slow or awkward experience on phones

Tools I use

Shopify · Storefront API · Next.js · Hydrogen · TypeScript · Tailwind CSS · Vercel

01

Design from scratch

Not a theme with your logo dropped into it. Every page is drawn around your products and your brand, then built to match exactly.

02

Headless storefront

The site is built in Next.js and pulls products from Shopify's Storefront API, so what the design can do isn't decided by what a theme allows.

03

Shopify checkout

Payments, taxes, shipping rates, discount codes and order emails stay on Shopify's own checkout. That's the part nobody should be reinventing.

04

Fast on a mid-range phone

Images, fonts and scripts kept tight so product pages open quickly on 4G, which is where most of your sales actually happen.

05

Everything a store needs

Collections, search and filters, variants, cart, customer accounts, order tracking and the content pages around them.

06

Brand and graphics

Logo, packaging and campaign graphics, product photography direction and the social assets for launch, if you'd rather have them done alongside the site than bought separately.

07

Found in search

Product and collection pages with proper titles, structured data so Google can show prices and reviews, clean URLs and a sitemap. Built in, not bolted on later.

08

Migration and launch

Products and customers moved across, redirects from your old URLs so you keep your search rankings, analytics and ad tracking wired up, then a walkthrough.

More about the process

One to two months for the whole site: design, build, migration and launch. A small catalogue sits at the short end, a large one with a lot of custom pages at the other. You get a staging link in the first week and watch it come together from there.

Shopify carries on handling products, inventory, payments and checkout. The storefront your customers see is a separate site I build on top of it, talking to Shopify over its Storefront API. You get complete control of the design; the trade-off is that some Shopify app-store plugins don't drop straight in and need building properly instead.

Yes, exactly as you do now. You add products, run sales and fulfil orders in the same place. There's nothing new for your team to learn.

Yes. Products, collections, customers and orders stay in Shopify, so there's nothing to export. I rebuild the storefront, map every old URL to its new one so you don't lose rankings, and we switch the domain over on a quiet day.

Yes. I also do brand and logo design, product and campaign graphics, and the social assets that go with a launch. It's usually cheaper and more coherent done alongside the site than bought separately.

It depends on the size of the catalogue and how many pages are custom rather than templated. Tell me what you sell and roughly how many products, and I'll come back with a fixed price and a timeline.
